Smog states

Do any of you live in a state that still requires smog checks for our trucks? I live in Kalif and it's exempt. Hard to believe, but true. We are the land of electric everything. 2025 no more gas mowers or yard equipment. Biggest problem is we haven't enough electricity now. Guess that's not important.

Anything 25 and older in NY are exempt from emissions . Still has to be safety inspected

Re: Smog states

NJ doesn't do safety checks on anything anymore and only do smog tests on OBD2 cars/trucks/SUVs. That works out to about 1995 and newer.

No inspections on motorcycles of any age.

AZ you still have to smog nearly everything 67 and newer.

Phoenix and Tucson, btw....

Re: Smog states

If your Portland, Oregon metro area, anything 75 and newer has to smog. Outside of those 3 counties, no smog on anything and then down south near the Cali border in Medford is anything 25 years and newer need smog testing.

.

Took my '67 to a local Jiffy Lube. They didn't even touch it. Guy told me he didn't want to risk any damage messing with it and it passed. They didn't even charge me. Dude said "it's just a safety inspection."

California use to not smog anything 25 years old or older. That was until governor Arnold Schwarzenegger took office and set a year 1975 on back. This state is a joke. It's gotten so bad here in california that House Democrats join Republicans in voting to strike down California's electric vehicle mandate.
My brother in Texas laughs at me because we have to pay .10 for grocery bags.

Certain large metropolitan areas of Texas have emissions testing. I'm just not sure of the cut-off dates.. I grew up in Beaumont, Texas.. When emissions testing came to town, Lawyers brought a class action suit against the state and won the cases.. The testing stations packed up and left town.. I'm 80 years old, have lived in Texas all my life.. I've bought several new vehicles along with a bunch of used/old ones, but never had to have any of them pass one of those tests. Texas does have a safety inspection requirement for all vehicles, including motorcycles of all ages.. The only exemption that I know of is vehicles registered as "Antique Vehicle".. The safety inspection is tied directly to state required liability insurance.. You can't get one without having the other.

I bought a set of wheels from a dude in Las Vegas that said that "south Nevada smogs cars, but northern Nevada doesn't"

Mendocino county in Norther California doesn't do smog from what I was told. All other counties do.

Have to read the fine print. Exempt from testing only. Technically all smog equipment has to be in place and if you swap a newer/diffferent engine in it all smog equipment has to be there. There will be measures to insure that in the near future I would bet.

I guess since this thread was started in the 67-72 truck message board the question pertains to just 67-72s. Otherwise, this will get moved to General Discussion.

I have never had to have my 67-72s smogged in Maryland. These vehicles really don't have any smog equipment to speak of, so being required to meet modern standards would be ridiculous. I think when testing began in the '80s it was post-'75 since that was the year Catalytic convertors were mandated. And at first it was only metropolitan counties

In my county, no smog test, no vehicle inspection, no wheel tax, surprisingly there aren't many clunkers on the road either.
tags are $29.00/yr Antique tag is permanent

In Ohio, anything 25 years or older is exempt. You can also buy Historical Vehicle plates for $35 that last 99 years.

If you vehicle is newer and you live in a county that has emissions testing, they have Collectors plates that allows you to bypass emissions as long as your car has something special about it and you do not drive it daily.

DFW area of TX has emissions testing with 25 year cutoff (this was the first year I didn’t have to do emissions on my 97). Safety insp for all.

grandfathered in pre '75, but "visual inspection", so all the pieces what it usedta have where they usedta be.
If you replace the motor it has to meet the new requirements, but since 99% of the time it's an LS swap, that's not a big deal

The only area in Georgia that still does emissions testing is the Atlanta metro area. The rest of the state there is no emissions or inspections performed. As you drive along, you rarely see a vehicle over 10 years old, except for the car aficionados. Antique vehicle registration is $25, and if the vehicle is 1970 and older, you can have a year of make plate displayed. Of course they give you a modern plate that you keep somewhere in the vehicle. I have a 1968 plate for my C10 that will be on the back bumper.

Re: Smog states

Never understood smog certification in certain areas of a state. I live in the central valley of Kalifornia and it used to be the foothill areas and above didn't require smog check. I think it's still that way and only necessary when you sell a vehicle. All the air from the bay area and mountains funnels into the valley. Sure they have clean air. All the crap comes here. Our bad air is second only to the L.A. basin. I did keep my smog pump and accessories in case Gavin changes his mind. What mind?

That plate is Super cool.

My county is free from the Smog Racket now.

I think Davidson County was the last one in the state that had to do it.

They may be Exempted by now?
