1967 327 Block number
 

What would have been the block casting number on a 1967 C10 327 engine? Im assuming all of the 327 1/2 ton truck engines would have all been the same casting number for that year?

Nasty Z28 site lists 7 possibilities for a 327 block in 1967. 3789817, 3791362, 3858174, 3858180, 3858190, 3868657, 3876132.

That is odd, 68 motors have new casting numbers due to major revisions in the blocks which included the removal of the draft tube port out the back of the block, large journals on the crank and then 68 was the first year of the spin on oil filter. No more canister and cartridge.

Hmmm - wonder if some of the '67 blocks went into the '68s? I have a bunch of pics of the PO doing the tear apart and engine rebuild. Mine definitely had the cartridge filter canister - and the adapter put on was for the Ford style filters I found out (after buying a filter the first time for a GM)

My father-in-law bought a '68 Impala SS with a 307 engine.. I did the maintenance and repairs on it for years, well into the '80s.. I never had need to go inside the engine but it had a cartridge type oil filter.. I later installed one of those adaptors that used a Ford filter...

Its possible, would have to then know the casting date of the block. Could have been right before the change over are re used. I have seen some odd stuff slapped on motors from the factory. I have 2 68 327 blocks (one is going in my truck) in the garage and Ill have to look at casting dates, but both have spin on filters, no adaptors.

Probably not the original engine. But it could be a somewhat rare 327 with a medium journal crankshaft. It might even be forged.

I was told my 327 came out of 67 Chevy truck not sure though if it makes a difference, the truck was a dump C20 or C30. Block number 3892657

I had a large journal 327 block back in 1986 that I pulled from a '68 Impala. It also had a cartridge type filter. I converted to spin on, but should have left it alone. Those cartridge type filters have more filtering area than a spin on. I think '68 did still use those on some and '69 all got spin on.

maybe with the impala and trucks, but Chevelle/Camaro/Corvette and Nova were spin on 68. My 68 Camaro still has the original motor and its a spin on. I have yet to run across one of those cars with a cartridge when they have their original motors.

Ditto: my 68 original engine 327 Camaro=spin on.

Now I will say my Camaro is a very late July 68 production number — so perhaps at some point when they were approaching the 69 production they switched over.

I did build a 327 for a 1-owner '68 Camaro for a customer and it too had a spin on filter. I don't know if it was early or late production. The internet sure seems to say that '68 got spin on filters which would make sense with the conversion to large journal blocks. Maybe the Impala I got my engine from converted to a cartridge style? It was a junkyard pull but definitely a large journal 327. Any other '68 guys have original engines that have cartridge style filters?
