Grand Wagoneer - last gen

Has anyone messed with one? There's an '89 available that has me intrigued. I've not done anything more than a walkaround - what I can remember from the window:

(Everything in the last four years or so)
  • Rebuilt motor
  • Rebuilt carb (I would have done FI while the motor was out, but whatever.)
  • Brakes
  • Repaint
  • New wood grain
  • New carpet, incl cargo area

Is the 360-2V the dog that the guys on the FSJ forum seem to think it is? The steel oil pump gear running against an aluminum front cover scares the crap out of me.
How's the general build quality? I would expect flaky electronics and brittle plastic.
I have no idea how solid the underside is.

Enlighten me. Thanks.

The 360 is about as desirable as a Chevy 305. Low power, horrible fuel economy, and expensive to find parts for. I've owned 4 full size jeeps and the first thing I did was replace the engine. I know a lot of people get upset when your swap an LS engine, but it really is the way to go for power, better fuel economy, reliability and parts availability. My 68 wagoneer has a lq4 6.0l and a 4l70e transmission. It's about 375 hp and gets 18 mpg on the highway.
