'99 Tahoe 2WD Before / After Pics

Was unable to find and bring back to the top a previous thread from last Dec. when I purchased my new to me daily driver '99 Tahoe. Had all the options and equipment I wanted but was not happy with the current style of wheels that it came with. 15 x 8 "Black Rock" wheels which was not familiar with. Black wheels, black wall tires with black running boards was just too much black to suit me. So....went on the hunt for a set of 5 on 5 square body rally wheels. Found a set of 5 at a swap meet for $200 with caps and 3'' trim rings. Just today had the black wheels and rallies switched. This after cleaning, 220 then 400 wet sanding, priming, painting and then clear coating the rallies. Below is the final result. I'm liking the Tahoe much better now. Comments?

I am partial to Rally wheels. They look great on your Tahoe. I've been thinking of doing the same thing to my K1500. Are your Rally wheels 15x8?

Patrick, must admit I'm also a big fan of GM rally wheels myself. I have a set of them on my '71 4x4 in the 6 lug 15 x 8 version. The rallies I have on the '99 Tahoe are indeed the 8'' version. Currently have a set of the polished S/S 3'' trim rings on the Tahoe, have 3'' brushed S/S on the '71 4x4. Also have a set of the 5 on 4 3/4'' GM car rallies on my '57 2 dr. sedan.

The Black Rock wheels will find their new home later this month I hope when I take them to a local swap meet.

100% improvement...now about those running boards. Just me but I put a set on my current ride for my wife, they kill my knee getting out of it. They probably help protect the body, but I'm tall enough not to need them and they don't improve the Tahoe's look IMO.

The rallies are an improvement for sure to me also. The running boards.....jury still out on them. Don't really like the look but unfortunately they do come in handy when my bad knee flares up. Sure sucks getting old but it does beat the alternative. :chevy:

Definitely an improvement I too am a Ralley wheel fan. You going to keep the running boards or ditch them also?

Still thinking on the running boards. Part of me wants to pull them off thinking the Tahoe will look cleaner with out them. The other part of me with my bad knee when it acts up says.....No, better leave them for awhile yet.

Decisions, decisions. :chevy: But I am glad I changed wheels to the square body rallies for sure.

I had a 2000 Tahoe that I added running boards to to make it easier for my family members to climb in and out of it. I think it was worth it from a convenience standpoint.

Patrick, did your 2000 Tahoe have the two piece rear hatch or the double rear cargo doors? Our previous 4WD '99 Tahoe, which I should have kept at the time, had the double cargo doors. Our current 2005 Tahoe has the rear two piece hatch. I do much prefer the double cargo doors. Think 2006 was the last year they were an option.

It had the hatch style that swings up. I test-drove one with cargo doors, and I was surprised by how much they obstructed the rear view mirror.

While not a fan of black rims, the rallies have never been on my list of good looking rims either. But they make you happy, and that's all that matters in the end.
