Broken 71 Inner Grill ?

1 Attachment(s)
I pulled this photo off our site, it shows the broken piece similar to mine, but mine has only one broken square. Has anyone tried to repair this with a piece from another grill. The pickup doesn’t warrant a replacement grill but I just can’t help noticing it every time I’m around the truck. Figured it would not be too difficult to cut and paste a piece

I don’t see why you couldn’t. Just need to find a donor

Also possibly strengthen the patch pieces with a thin wire in the back, fill around the wire with J B weld.

I'm looking to get rid of the grille and surround that I removed from my truck when I put the stock type grille in it. I'll send you a chunk in an "if it fits, is ships" box for postage only, or maybe you know a cheaper way. There are repair kits for welding the plastic.

A guy on YouTube did a video repairing a grill using JB Weld, turned out pretty good. I think E6000 would also work well but not sure how sandable or paintable that would be. Look for It’s The Chad - How To Repair A Truck Grill.

Nothing a hacksaw and a cardboard box can't handle!

That's not a grille. That's a donor bank. It can save many grille's lives

Yeah, I guess I'll put the rest up in the rafters. It's no good to me with the two sections missing. Let's see if parts of it make different journeys around the country.

That grille breakage is a common thing from accessing the hood release.

My gmail won't let me in, so I can't see your pick, Jack. So I took one and cropped it to show what I could ship you. If you want less, let me know. It isn't cut yet, so if you want more from the passenger's side, just let me know. That flange with the hole for the bolt is sound.

Steven that is the exact piece necessary for the repair. I will post a picture in a moment. Maybe some instructions on how to cut and paste from anyone who has done this ?

Re: Broken 71 Inner Grill ?

I would imagine cutting the piece oversized would give room for trial and error ?

Re: Broken 71 Inner Grill ?

Yup, you'll get some extra. The bigger the repair piece is, the stronger it should be.

Your surround looks to be in great shape, is it for sale?

How about you take it UPS or Fed Ex have them pack it and I'll pay for it and the shipping. I don't think there's a cheap way to do it.

I'll check into that. It's a shame Greyhound doesn't ship stuff anymore. I shipped an entire radiator core support for a '69 Buick Skylark for $125. That was a BIG ol' box. We were told to leave the box open for inspection. When we got to the terminal, they didn't want to inspect. We had brought some strapping tape that screeched like an owl when we reeled it out to close up the box. People were giving us some serious stinkeye!

My son and I were amazed at how loud that tape noise was. It'll be a few days before I take it to FEDEX or wherever for an estimate, given the holidays.
