Annual Check-list?
1 Attachment(s)
Hi all,
I changed the oil and filled the tank on the '69 C-20 last week to put it away for the winter. Is there a checklist that anyone uses of things to look at prior to putting it back on the road next spring? I'll get it on the lift and check the brakes at a minimum. While I'm on that topic, the previous owner always had it serviced annually at the dealer. He mentioned the need to pull the rear axles to check the brakes. Is that true?? Most of my experience is with newer stuff or older British cars, so that's a foreign concept to me. Insight on the rear brake question as well as other things to inspect on these trucks would be appreciated! -Wes |

Someof the 3/4 ton axles are that way. I forget which ones, but yeH uou probably will.

Re: Annual Check-list?
Yes the brake drum mounts on the back side of the hub. So you have to pull the axle to access the hub retaining nuts. Then the hub and brake drum come off as a unit.

Re: Annual Check-list?
That's the way to pull the drums but I'd say checking every year is not necessary. Even with 4 wheel drums the front does most of the work. The thing with full-floating axles I learned is each time the drums come off replace the inner seals or your asking for leaks/wet shows. Not a guarantee they'll leak but from personal experience I have adopted that practice
