1967 K20 Color Help
 

Morning all!

I have been tumbling around what color to paint my truck. I have been going back and forth on original colors vs. some kind of baby blue. I am now thinking that maybe a return to the original colors is what I want. My SPID specifies the paint code as 04521AA. According to the 1967 Chevy Truck paint chips, I think that the exterior was 1492 White and the interior was 4839 blue metallic. Can anyone verify this? If these are correct, does anyone have any suggestions where I can find single stage paints in these colors? I have opted for a single stage urethane vs. a base/clear setup.

Well, I'm a bit partial to white trucks!

With your truck, I'd be tempted to go with that same blue interior and exterior with white 67-only cab top and back.

That would be a pretty neat combo as well! I really haven't decided 100% yet.

In Arizona my number one choice would be White. It really makes a difference if you can't find shaded parking.
When I was at MCAS Yuma, and working on the night crew, I'd take my non-A/C Orange Stepside into town and get the 50 cent U-spray-it car wash to cool it down.

Of course my favorite Chevy Truck Color is 516 Orange. An acquired taste, perhaps, but Glamourous Glennis III [Bell X-1] was an inspiration.

Or White body, Metallic Blue cab roof. And paint the Grille Hoops, Headlamp Bezels, and Tailgate Letters the same Blue to get that '67 model year look.

The original solid white with blue interior would look sharp. single stage urethane is available. I'm not a body guy or up on the lines of paint, but I know TCP Global sells single stage. That's the people who maintain www.autocolorlibrary.com

White exterior, and blue interior, if your planning new dash pad and door panels, buy them 1st then get the interior color that looks best with them. Great truck.

You've been working hard on that truck. It's looking very nice, it's going to be a beauty when you are done. Aside from the single stage... I'd defenitly go white if you're painting it yourself. Plus, if that's what's on the spid it will get you where you want to be in a restoration. I would spend an extra couple bucks and rent a booth to paint it, and keep it clean. I was talking to a contractor the other day. He just painted his VW Bus. He did it in his garage and somehow got some grit on one side of the Bus. He is now looking forward to living with it or stripping and repainting. His quote "I should have rented a booth!"

PPG has a large selection of single stage paints. (Well pre-covid they did.)It's what I used on my Burban.

The factory white and blue will be sweet. And if you want to go over the top recreate the later factory pin stripes in the blue.

You have a pretty unique factory color scheme, the white trucks are as rare as the black ones, I think.

My old '67 K/10 Suburban was White exterior, with a Fawn interior.
Fremont truck, and they were fond of Fawn.

Solid white 67 exterior would have been 521 as your SPID calls out (you can ignore the other letters/numbers, only the 521 in the middle matters). (1492 is just Acme’s code for GM 521 white - and note the 521 just to the left of the paint chip). If you opt to go with a two tone combination (and want to do it how the factory would have), 521 would not have been used for the “white” cab roof, it would have been 526-coded ivory (the last chip on the sheet). This was the case for 67-68 model years.

Can anyone confirm that my interior color is 506 medium blue metallic? It kinda looks like 507 light blue to me....I just can't tell.

There's a chart in post #11 that lists the interior color codes. Yours is going to be the Medium Blue Poly that is listed as 13391 which is going to be different than the 506, but I'm not sure in what way. The top of your dash would be the Dark Blue 13398

506 - Medium Blue is Ditzler 13363

If you have a shop that mixes PPG near you, I'm pretty sure they can get mixing formulas(From PPG) for most of these colors. Sometimes you can only get them in a Basecoat Clearcoat formula, usually DBC. Sometimes they can mix them in a single stage if that's what you want, but they don't have as many toners to tint the single stage as they have in BC/CC.

I'm going to pickup my 1967 K20 on 12/30 and can't wait. I also have another 1967 C10 that has fawn interior and I know that TCP Global can mix the colors and they can probably do the blue also. I've been waiting to go to my PPG store to get the fawn paint, because I don't have that truck at my place yet either.

One more thing, I love the white, but I would also love the 506 Medium Blue.

A C10 I just sold was the 1977-1978 light blue with the 1968 Ivory top and below molding. I never regretted the color change.

Thanks for the info Jason! Man, that is a sexy looking color!! I have been going back and forth on this, and honestly I will probably change my mind a few more times before it is all done. I like the fact that white will hide any blemishes. I am not a body guy at all, and I am even less of a painter. This is going to be a driver truck that I want to look decent. If I were building a C10 that would be a bit different and I would probably have someone do all the work for me. As it stands now, I have found a guy that will shoot the paint for me. Moreover, he is cool with me painting it piece by piece as I get stuff done.
I have also been looking at the GM fleet white for the entire truck. Not 100% period correct, but I think that it may look pretty good. I am kinda partial to white trucks....especially here in AZ.

I've seen all the paint you have been doing. That practice is priceless. Spraying the white should be pretty forgiving.

If it's a driver I'd stick with the white. The metallic in the 506 is going to be a pain.

I painted the blue and ivory and I'm not a painter either. Most of that truck had to be wet sanded and buffed, which isn't all that much work.

There were a few times I was spraying something and a problem occurred. Bad runs, bugs, who knows. I just had to stop and sand it out and start again.
