55.2-59 Tip and Flip cab dolly
I’m going to need to build a cab dolly for my project truck. Years ago there was a person selling plans on here for the tip and flip dolly. Does anyone know if there are plans still available? Thanks

I vaguely remember that but it has been a while.
Here, it looks like he hasn't been around for years though https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...d.php?t=790438 https://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vbo...d.php?t=787562 |
Re: 55.2-59 Tip and Flip cab dolly
if it were me doing that i would think a set of non caster wheels on the pivot end of things might give better control when doing the tipping. casters on the other end would still allow it to be rolled around, just less manoeverable.
it doesn't really look all that hard to build if you just apply the same logic. I have seen some that have a rounded end on the tipping end, that would possibly make it easier to tip but may also make it tip a little fast. good idea though. i have seen one where the builder made a complete ring around the cab, like a halo. might need a tbing roller for that one. |

if you get casters that can have swivel locks it will help what dsraven is taking about. This allows for easy moving and easy moving when you don't want all over steering.

Thanks to everyone for all the information. I think having the flip ability will be a nice addition to the dolly. I do like the idea of the swivel locks on the casters.

Many of us just rolled the cab on the firewall or back on carpet and foam. I did have a simple dolly made of 2x4s, but unless your planning on a forever project, you really don't need to flip it often

We all work on our trucks under different situations, Some have pretty large and well laid out shops with room to spread out and the project never has to move except when they decide to move it, Others have to back the wife's car out of her side of the garage and roll the cab over out of it's spot to have room to work and then roll it back and clean up the area before putting her car away in it's spot. Some have a car port or one car garage and some don't even have that. Remembering that in the early 80's I flipped my cab on it's back on a sheet of cardboard a number of times but now I am not sure that I can flip it by myself anymore. |
