Stock '96 NV4500 Bellhousing in 85 K30 w/6.5TD?

I have been toying with the idea of changing my 85 K30 (M1008) to an NV4500. I have swapped it from the 6.2 diesel to a 6.5 TD.

I have found a relatively good deal for a NV4500 with all components out of a 96 K3500. My question is, will the stock 96 bellhousing work in my 85? I know Advance Adapters makes one, but it would sweeten the deal I found on the NV4500 package if I can use the bellhousing that it comes with.

The 96-07 bell will work fine in a squarebody. Those use an internal slave, so there's minimal interference with anything else, unlike the 92-95 nv4500 with the low-mount external slave.

Does your k30 have a th400/np208 combo? If so, the nv4500 will bolt right in with no changes to the driveshafts or transfer case. The round-pattern th400, round-pattern sm465, and nv4500 are all practically the same length as each other. If your k30 has a np205 like the civilian k30 trucks did, then fitment gets more complicated.

Use the 1985+ squarebody hydraulic clutch pedal assembly. Install a Russel 640281 fitting in the slave. Use the following link for the master cylinder adapter fitting; choose the 3AN/12mm1.0 option from the drop-down menu. https://ormebrothers.com/products/me...pter-dual-seat This will adapt both the nv4500 internal slave and the squarebody master to -3AN. You'll need approximately 30 inches of a brake-fluid-rated AN hose with two female -3AN fittings, but it would be better to measure for the length after you've mocked everything up.

Perfect, thanks for the information! Yeah it originally had the th400 (and still has the np208), but early on i changed it to an upgraded 700r4. Now that I've changed to the 6.5TD (which wasn't originally planned), the trans is the weak link in my setup so I'm starting to prepare to change. And I like manuals more anyways.

Good to know all of the other details as well, I'll most likely change to an np205 I have but I know that is more involved.

If you're okay with resizing the driveshafts, then there isn't a lot more involved. You'll need to use a spacer ring between the np205 and the nv4500 because of the shaft stick-out length difference. You'll also need to rig up something for the transmission-mounted t-case shift lever. Look through Advance-Adapters and Off-Road-Design's websites, and see if one of them has the spacer and shifter parts you need.

Personally, I would stick with the np208. I'm not convinced the np205 is that much stronger.
