Engine Painting Prep
I got my engine back from the my machine shop and I would like to paint it. I was watching UTG (Uncle Tony's Garage) and he showed using a MAP burner to sweat out the oils\contaminants before painting. Sure enough my engine is sweating out contaminants, but I've gone through a bottle already with no end in sight.
Is this normal its taking this much gas or am I doing something wrong/overboard? |
Re: Engine Painting Prep
I normally use a good quality brake cleaner or starting fluid.
That pulls the oil out from the porous cast iron. Make sure whatever process used, That it is in a well-ventilated area. Also have a fire extinguisher around. |
Re: Engine Painting Prep
All I have ever done is wash with simple green. Let dry for couple days and spray on good quality paint like VHT. Never had any issues. I would not use a torch for fear of cooking the gaskets. Especially valve cover.
