Front Hood Molding
Did a little searching and the consensus seems to be identical to my experience:
The angle is too shallow. It doesn't conform to the hood angle and sticks out at the ends. The one I tried to install is a Corvex brand. I found three different part numbers at Eckler's. $68, $138 and $290. I would imagine the $68 one is probably the same as mine. I believe in you get what you pay for. Has anybody tried the more expensive molding? Any experience in one that does fit? |
Re: Front Hood Molding
I don't have any experience with the reproduction trim, but here's an option.

Re: Front Hood Molding
For my 67, the grill trim loops I got are the same brand, Corvex, while they look good the angle of the trim is off,,, were the center bow tie rest on the trim top and bottom it does not match with the contour of the bow, the bow sticks out a bit. It'll do for now hope the bow tie got enough bit till I find better one. I think I paid $83.00 each. Yeah I went withthe low price. Also a call out for anyone with better results, good luck with yours, thanks all

Surely, many of us have tried to replace this hood nose molding. Is there anyone who can share their experiences?
I have ordered four of these and they are all Corvex. They are all at the same angle too, not a manufacturing inconsistency. |
Re: Front Hood Molding
I have contacted several vendors about this molding and if they knew the manufacturer. So far, it's all been Corvex. In fact, GMCPauls tells me that Corvex is the only manufacturer of this molding.
So, I guess I'll be trying again to make another one fit without making it look too bad. |
Re: Front Hood Molding
Man, I didn't realize this piece was that bad. I'm needing to buy the 3 piece set soonish.
Any idea if the Holley/Brothers offering is any different? |

Everything I have heard so far from the vendors is that Corvex is the only manufacturer.
I was able to prepare a little better this time to help it fit. I snugly clamped vice grips at the middle top lip with two small pieces of Masonite to protect the finish. I carefully bent it as required. The clamping action helped in reducing the kinking/distortion. I didn't worry about the bottom section. I was concerned that it would be harder to bend and I might loose control. It made a fairly smooth kink. Here's the result. It's better than my first attempt which kinked it a bunch. |
Re: Front Hood Molding
That worked out well. I guess I'll be doing the same. Thanks

Good luck! Show us your results.

Re: Front Hood Molding
Key Parts shows this part number on their website. Aren't they a manufacturer? I find it odd they would be buying the Corvex part and reselling it under their name.
Key Parts: 0849-049 |
Re: Front Hood Molding
Apparently they're not a manufacturer, for at least this part. But, that's exactly what happened with one of the vendors I ordered this molding from. It was dropped-shipped from Key Parts and was Corvex.
