I had the missed-thought they're stainless, but I think they're chrome. Anyone know for sure? Thanks

Mine are rusting & some of the chrome pitted.
My vote is they are steel.

I think you mean chromed steel. I guess stainless can rust and pit too, depends on the materials. The moldings are nice and heavy, for what worth.

I would think that they just chromed the steel molding . Would make more sense than two different metals for the same part

Wouldn't the steel be magnetic and the stainless non magnetic like steel and stainless bolts? Or did I miss the point of the question?

Perhaps a good point, but some stainless is magnetic.

"All stainless steel metals are a type of steel. That means their chemical composition contains iron. In most cases, stainless steel varieties with iron in their composition are magnetic. If the alloy has an austenitic crystal structure, then it's not magnetic."

They are definitely chromed steel. Very little stainless steel was used in the auto industry in this era. These pieces rust
