1966 c10 backspacing?

ok question about steel wheel backspacing. I currently have factory 6 bolt 15 x 8 ralley wheels from a 1984 chevy squarebody on my 1966 c10 with factory drum brakes that I am not changing to disc anytime soon. The backspacing is 4". I am looking at wheeltiques 6 bolt 15 x 7 or 15 x 8 steel wheels with the nubs for the original like hubcaps. The problem is the current ralley wheels with 4" backspacing are @ 1\4 from the tie rods currently. The wheels I am looking at seem to only come in 4.25" backspacing. Who has done this? Did things fit ok? Do not want to spend $ to find out I have fitment issues. Thanks

you could simply use a .25 spacer and you should be fine

Wouldn’t the 7” wheels be the way to go? Pick up 1/2” on either side for 8-7” and give up 1/4” add’l backspacing, so should give you 1/4” add’l clearance. I’m looking to do the same thing so curious if someone can confirm my numbers..

I would not utilize 1/4" spacers on OE 6-lug studs. If they're replaced w/something longer & stronger, sure.

Check w/Wheel Vintiques. If you order directly from them, you can (could @ one point in time) select the back-spacing dimension within a select range per size of the wheel @ an added cost.

I have 16x6 & 16x8" 8-lug 62-series 'OE' steel wheels on one of my trucks. Both sizes I spec'd my back spacing. The caveat is if you order & pay for 'custom' back-spacing, the wheels are yours & not returnable so your math needs to be on-point.

I'm running 20 inch wheels, 8" wheels with 4.50" backspacing in the front, and
9" 5.00 backspace in the rear.
NO problems anywhere

So that others not in the know understand, this is apples to oranges here.

A 20" wheel will allow greater clearance @ obstacles like tie-rods or impact on the scrub-line vs a smaller diameter wheel. The physical placement of the wheel relative to the body is where they're similar.
