54' Gas Pedal
All,
I am going to us a stock 54' gas pedal in my build and ordered a new reproduction one. What I can't seem to find in my pile of parts is the lever/rod that connects to the linkage from the pedal? If anyone could post a picture I would appreciate it! Hope ya'll had a happy 4th! |

It's just a rod with a ball on end and a 90 degree bend with a hole for a cotter key on the other end.
They often get bent or damaged when the engine gets pulled. |

Thank you Mr48chev,
that's what I was looking for! |
Re: 54' Gas Pedal
My challenge now is to make this old school pedal work with the LS throttle linkage?

I bought one of these Lokar knockoff pedals for my 48 a couple of years ago.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/35468100394...3Avlp_homepage I am not planning on changing the pedal but one could remove the shiny pedal cover and rubber inserts and put the stock pedal on it. Looking at the back side of it the cover part is held on with a couple of rivets. Or you might use that idea and fab your own bellcrank setup that worked a cable using a shortened stock rod to work it. I'll dig the doodle pad out and draw up an idea in a minute. |

You would have to do some designing to come up with the right amount of pedal travel to cable travel to get full throttle but it is doable with a couple of hours of fabricating.
Same idea as the bellcrank on the side of the six cylinder block and you might even be able to repurpose that bell crank but you use a cable rather than a rod to get up to the throttle arm. I've got enough left of a farm kid tech modified rod that I can cut the mess off and throw in an envelope and gift to you if you need it. Someone scab welded a bandaid on it for some reason. Add to that it isn't very straight in it's current condition. Not worth selling but I can gift it |
Re: 54' Gas Pedal
So I assume you have a drive by cable throttle body, not drive by wire?
You could get an S10 or 70s-80s C10 pedal, both mount on firewall on inside. Position it so it sits behind the old school pedal. Cutting off the parts of the s10 pedal you don't need. Then shorten, lengthen and bend the upper arm to be where you want it with the right amount of travel. The S10 cable might be long enough, if not get one from a LS powered full size van, they are plenty long enough for most swaps, cut it to length and put a cable clamp on the end by gas pedal, or swage a hunk of copper onto the end with a vice or hammer |
Re: 54' Gas Pedal
Thanks guys for all your ideas!
I purchased the same mounting pedal in black that you used mr48chev! Will see if the pedal looks suitable if not I can swap with my stock pedal!! You guys have been a great help in my journey, Thanks much! |

I'm surprised that no one told you about this option.
55+ V8 throttle linkage on a 51. Uses stock pedal. Just have to line it up and drill a couple of holes. |
