throttle linkage hit exhaust bolts
1 Attachment(s)
59 chevy 235 stock BC carb. Hooking up my gas pedal and I only have an inch or so of travel Probably stops 6 inches from the floor . It looks like my linkage is hitting my exhaust manifold stud. Its hitting the brass nut. Does it look like anything is wrong in this picture? I know the spring needs to be attached to the pan but this is temporary

Here's what the assembly manual shows. Looks like your bracket that swivels is going clockwise rather than counterclockwise? Almost looks like your rod to the carb has an extra bend in it too. Hopefully someone who has this set up can chime in.

Been there did the same exact thing. You have the bellcrank positioned wrong. The guy who got that all together right the first time without having to step back and figure it out leads a charmed life.
The rod is on right it is the Bellcrank that is in the wrong position. I think it was on the 56 235 that I put in my friend's 53 that I beat my head against the wall on on that. You have to take the bell crank off and turn it around so that the straight arm is up and the bent arm is facing down as the diagram that 57 tailgater posted shows. |

OK I think the new linkage will solve that problem but Now I have a new one. The linkage from the gas pedal to the bell crank hits the exhaust manifold when I push the gas pedal. Is the linkage supposed to have that high arc bend in it??

Re: throttle linkage hit exhaust bolts
I'm thinking that the rod is not supposed to have that bend in it. Both of them that are on cabs I have are straight in that area but one is bent from being banged around for the past 30 years that I have had that cab.

Re: throttle linkage hit exhaust bolts
Yeah, it doesn't look bent in the schematic below.

Re: throttle linkage hit exhaust bolts
if I remember correctly the stock rods are fairly straight at the engine end and have an arc close to the pedal end of things. no sudden bends like your pics show
