Rosie, a '62 GMC Carryall
 

My favorite aunt passed away about a year, year and a half back. She left me Rosie.

Rosie is a west coast Carryall that is perched on a squarebody frame. Some sort of GM Crate motor, 4L80E, air-lockers, all the toys.
My uncle-in-law's son owned her, drove her to Alabama, then went off to god-knows-where and passed away. Uncle passed away, so Rosie was sitting for 6ish years when I got her.

About a month later I got her running well enough to drive to the gas station and fill her up.

Going up this weekend to work on her some more, get her more reliable and hopefully be able to get her registered and insured.

Lots of rust that I need to address (that you can see) and I need to figure out the mechanism for the rear-door so I can replace the lock and lube up the latch.

As I mentioned, the engine is some flavor of GM Crate engine. One of these days I'll track down the code on it.

Not 100% sure what kind of frame she's on, but based on the shocks and a few other things, likely a squarebody?

I would love any and all info anyone has on the rear-door and getting the mechanism to work and door to open. I presume I need to crawl through there and take the panel off so I can manually manipulate the rods?

Mr Asa, (and anyone else reading this, I am going to be in the market for a 60-66 solid patina or lightly restored suburban like this, and really like a GMC and especially one in Palomino Tan like this so despite the modifications from stock I don't care for, I would like to know if and when you decide to sell or if anyone reading is holding something not publicly for sale but could be bought - no primer please - not looking to paint one - want one either in original / patina shape all one color all the way around or one repainted at some point to a favorable color or factory color. Tailgate open, lock cylinder out, at the locksmith getting rekeyed.

It feels like every time I get up there I get less and less done. I think I need a hand or something. Doesn't help that she's 4-1/2 hours away. I pretty much drove up that morning and worked on her while I had light.

Did some vacuuming inside to get the crud out enough to allow me to climb through. Took the panel off, opened the tailgate. Dead simple.

After that I tried to start her and got nowhere. Got one or two coughs, then the batteries died (despite having them on a trickle charger for the past two weeks) I'm also half convinced that I got the wiring order messed up when I changed the wires, and maybe I shouldn't be using crappy Amazon-Special wires.

I've always been an inline guy, so working with a V8 is different. I do wonder if I should look for a spreadbore carb. to better match the intake. But maybe that should wait for when everything is actually running

Hey your truck is local to me. If you need a hand let me know. I'm in the market for one so spending some time working on one would help me for things to look for when I am looking at them. I already have a 65 C10 I finished about a year ago and have been through that truck front to back.

Sorry man, truck is actually up in North Florida at my Dad's place. I try to do some wrenching of my own down here, but I usually borrow a buddy's shop.
