Gas peddle issue

Is there any differences in gas peddles on a 71/72 auto /4spd trucks? Its a 71 stick cab. Has a 402 in it , I've changed cables long and short and still not getting a full peddle when mashed to the floor. Truck has oem carpet also. Any info will help before I tweak the peddle

Trucks with the manual throttle dash control have a different pedal. The main concern is correct cable length for the application.

I've tried the long and short. No difference at the peddle. How about carb bracket for the cable, I'm using the one for the 402.

If you're not using the stock carburetor and linkage bracket, your engine is mounted differently, or different engine, then you'll need to modify a throttle cable.

I used this website, and called them to verify the carburetor linkage bracket and firewall ends:

Maybe you find the exact cable for a stock setup.

I installed it into the carburetor linkage and firewall, set the pedal where I wanted it to be, cut the cable, and crimped on a new cable stop. I believe I found the cable stops on Ebay. Good luck.

Re: Gas peddle issue

I forgot to mention that I shopped for a throttle cable that was slightly longer jacket and cable. I first cut the pedal end of the cable off and removed it from the jacket. I cut the jacket near one of the fittings, then I drilled out the plastic and wire from the fitting. It's best to cut the jacket with a high speed cutting wheel. You could use a plastic epoxy to re-join the jacket to the fitting. I fabricated my own crimper out of two pieces of 1/4" steel. I clamped them together and drilled a hole at the seam slightly smaller than the crimp end, I used another piece of steel clamped to both pieces to hold them together, and then I used a press to do the crimping. There's videos on YouTube that show how other's have done it.

On the carburetor throttle lever, if there is a hole closer to the pivot point to attach the cable, that will move the throttle over a greater range.
