Turned metal dash overlay ?

Does anyone make a turned metal dash or glovebox overlay for our trucks ? I love the look on the 77-79 Trans Ams with the turned metal dash . I was thinking of attempting this myself but I would rather buy a kit if available .

Try here. I like that look myself, but that's a bit rich for my blood. A good price if it included the instruments.

$500.00 ! Engine turning a piece of aluminum is a simple but tedious task. Pickup a piece and give it a try yourself.

Thanks for the pic, I was trying to visualize something being turned on a lathe for the dash/cluster and came up blank ;-)

When I was still working I had access to a machine shop. Many things were simplified.

I think Eastwood has a "turning" kit. You supply the aluminum sheet. I haven't done it but it looks like all you need is a decent drill press.
On my 68 C10 LS swap project I got some 18 gauge sheet metal and used it to "overlay" the stock C10 bezel. I laid out the gauge pattern first and drilled all the holes. I do that first because if you do the engine turning first and when you are drilling the gauge holes and the hole saw jumps and messes up the panel you get to start over. Ask me how I know.
I used my stock gauge cluster bezel. I epoxied the 20 gauge to the stock bezel.
A pic. The center gauge is the high beam, left and right signals and check engine light. Not including the gauges I think I had maybe $20 invested.
I used all Auto Meter gauges.

That's a smokin' deal, if Dolphin makes decent gauges!

Make your own.

Or in cheaper plastic film.

I would be happy with the stick on film but Im afraid my skill level would make it look cheesy .

The film has a funny look to it . Engine turnings look like half moons not circles I would try the panel but if you don’t have a drill press cutting the holes for the gages would be challenging

Re: Turned metal dash overlay ?

But the again if you have a drill press you could do it yourself

Yeah, that film looks pretty bad, close up.

Re: Turned metal dash overlay ?

I've thought of doing this myself, but I don't have a drill press either. My GMC Jimmy came out of the St Louis plant, so I had the Spirit of Saint Louis in mind. The Ryan NYP aircraft's nose cowling had prominent ''perlage''.

If you're worried about the pilot drill for the hole saw to cut instrument holes making skip marks -- the back surface would be easier to work on.

There are different varieties of the film. Some look better than others.
