Gas Gauge

just wondering how accurate your gas gauge is. Today I was showing just abouve empty so I went and filled up. I stopped after the first time the pump clicked with nozzle all the way in. To my surprise it took only a little over 10 gal. Got in truck gauge read full. I think my tank is 16gal (78 duel oem tank) so that means somewhere around 5-6 gal is left when my gauge reads just above E. how does yours read.

Re: Gas Gauge

Depends on the gauge and sender combo. My original gauge(dual 20 tanks) read full until about 3 gallons was burned and reached empty with about 4 left. The full sweep of the gauge was responding to about 13 gallons of use. Replacement gauge changed that somewhat and the new sender in one tank is quicker to come off full and a bit slower to read empty. I have gotten pretty good at picking up the first signs of fuel starvation and switching tanks before the motor fully quits. Does mean that I have one tank about as empty as you can get one in normal use.

These tanks are fairly sensitive to if the nose is uphill or down when being filled. I have had an empty tank only take 18 gallons if the truck is pointed uphill and a bit over 21 if the nose is down.

Re: Gas Gauge

Lately my gas gauge only registers half a tank when full, I've ran it down to empty and it'll only take 8/10 gals of gas before it clicks off, topped it off and it still reads half a tank.:smoke:

Showing 1/2 tank on the gauge = empty for me.

My gauge reads over full for quite awhile, then works it way to empty pretty quickly

Re: Gas Gauge

mine is a Silverado short bed. If it is a 13-gal tank then I am really close to correct. I am running org gauge and sending unit. for some reason I thought they were 16 gal tanks

Long bed normally got 20 gallon, short 16 gallon.
