Coil spring helper leaf.
1 Attachment(s)
I pulled an HO72 4:10 diff out of a chassis with just a 67-70 bumper on it for my 55 dually. It had the Chevy coils with a leaf helper. What's ths scoop on these?

Re: Coil spring helper leaf.
They're a factory option. It should be listed on the truck's SPID.

Re: Coil spring helper leaf.
I have a 71 C/20 with those from the factory. I use the pickup for one thing bringing in firewood. It always amazes me just how much the truck can carry. I have had wood stacked up three feet over the cab roof with little effect. Never on road just my property.

Re: Coil spring helper leaf.
My 72 Cheyenne Super C20 has them on it. The SPID shows them as an Auxiliary Spring 1G6010.

Re: Coil spring helper leaf.
Coil springs, helpers, HO72 rear axle, and dual rear wheels?

Re: Coil spring helper leaf.
I installed a set of those on my 1/2 ton. I remove the springs for regular duty and just driving around, I put them in when I am hauling my car trailer. They really help with squat in the back with a fairly heavy tongue weight and really help reduce sway. The springs are easy to remove, just one big bolt on each side.
My truck is lowered so the springs just about touch the bracket on the axle when it is empty, point being they help right away with any weight at all in the back. |
Re: Coil spring helper leaf.
I have them on my 70 C10 also. Like mentioned they are great for preventing squat on heavy loads or towing

I used an older setup with multiple springs. Still attaches the same way as the single leaf helper. |
Re: Coil spring helper leaf.
That chassis in the picture must have been a C-20 with RO5 dual rear wheels. Rare combination.

Re: Coil spring helper leaf.
Thanks for the info on the interesting option.
I am just happy to get rid of my 514s and find 410s so close to home with easy access. If any one needs the helpers, they are on Tumalo Rd. in Tumalo OR. The owner has a backhoe to flip it. It and the rest of his junk are getting scrapped. |
