What was the factory’s thinking to mount something on the high hump, I have those indent on my fire wall and they indicate holes

I'm having a hard time telling where your photo is located on your truck. Do you have another photo from farther back that shows more of the truck?

My K20 has indentions at the front near the firewall on the high hump where a 2wd 4 speed shifter boot would have gone. That’s the only thing I can think of in relation to your picture.

Looks like his picture is the bottom side of the hump sitting on a saw horse
