To glue, or not to glue

Yesterday I removed the headliner and sprayed on some left over thermal Lizard Skin on the roof. After removing the headliner, I noticed a dried red colored adhesive that shaved right off. I am not sure if it was factory or someone's attempt at smoothing the liner. Does the liner normally need an adhesive? I was able to smooth the liner backing board with descent results. The lizard skin is a bit bumpy so adhesive may be challenged or I'll have to sand and knock down the high spots some. I don't want to redo later as that trim was impossible to remove without snapping a few tabs. So as the title asks, glue or no glue? or maybe velcro? What's your opinion?

They're glued at the factory, at least mine had some type of contact cement on it. I'm certain it was original. My FiL had put stuff up on it and looked crummy, so I replaced it.

I used 6 strips of this stuff and it worked great. No issues!

I tried velcro, not knowing how it would hold, but I think I have enough surface area to not have much of a load. Made it all summer with out any part the adhesive releasing.

Pics in this post.

I ordered some velcro this am. The smaller piece i had stuck very well to the lizard skin. Given the insulating properties I am thinking the adhesive on the velcro will stay tight to the lizard skin. The original backer on the liner has a lot of old crusty factory adhesive. I'll clean best i can and hope for a good result.
