Headliner and sunvisors, aftermarket decent or no?
 

Dad's 95 GMC's driver's sunvisor is falling apart. Looking at used OEM they are pricey and usually not in great shape.

I know OEM is almost always far superior to aftermarket, but how badly can one really screw up a sunvisor?

He has some tears in his headliner as well, so the MAW (might as well) comes into play in this case.

Aftermarket stuff decent or junk?

I just restored my 96 GMC, 2 door extended cab headliner. I recovered the existing OEM headliner foam board. The fabric material & glue can be purchased at a local supplier or online (amazon, etc.) for about $100. I did it all by myself without any experience, but I recommend getting a helper to make it a lot easier.
Look at it this way, if you purchase a new after-market headliner & pay for oversize shipping, you still have the labor to remove the old liner & install the new one. It is not much more work to remove the old fabric & glue on new fabric on your existing head liner foam board. If the existing headliner foam board is damaged, it is easily repaired with duct tape on the reverse side (roof side) prior to glueing on the fabric. My headliner turned out with only a couple of small "puckers" due to not having a helper to lay the fabric down on the glued headliner. You-Tube has many good installation videos too.

That doesn't sound like a bad idea. What fabric did you use, and have any pics of the finished project? Would be a lot easier for me to do with a regular cab headliner. My concern was finding a covering that looked "right"

i just went to the fabric store and they had every kind. i paid $25 for some i liked and $10 for some spray adhesive.
if your doing a reg cab there easy as pie to get out the door

I tried some spray adhesive to try to reattach a factory headliner at work and the adhesive made a big mess of the fabric that was falling off. That said, might have been because the factory fabric had separated from the backing material, so what was sagging was too thin to be glued back in place.

I'll take a gander at the fabric store next time I go into the big city and see what they have.

When I had my 96 done years ago. I had a local upholstery shop redo the headliner and visors. Looked as good as new, maybe better, especially the visors. From what I remember it was cheaper than any of the DIY options I had looked at and is came out better IMO. The guy that go the truck from me still has it and the stuff still looks like new and is his daily driver.
