Engine mounting bracket help please
Hi all, and Merry Christmas.
I am prepping a LQ4 into a 1979 gmc dually (Camper Special) swap. I have ordered engine mounting brackets from Holley (part number BHS540) and associated hardware but the engine brackets do not fit my frame. The kit is for a C10. Is there a difference between C10 frames and C35 frames? Anybody experience this? Any guys out there do a similar swap and what engine mounting hardware did you use? Maybe someone can give alternate part numbers for me so I can get back on track. Thanks in advance Eric |
Re: Engine mounting bracket help please
I do know that the C10 and C35 frames are different. C10 frames have the same dimensions as a C20 frame, but the C20 frame (higher GVW) slightly thicker than the C10. The C35 is different as I found with my 1979 when someone tried to pull it out of a lot with a strap hooked to the wrong cross member!

Re: Engine mounting bracket help please
There are C10 vs C20/30 differences. These are the basics:
The main rails under the body are taller on C20 & C30 series trucks (6" vs 4"). The front x-members interchange but the C10's utilize a car style chunky rubber bushing for the A-arms while the heavier trucks utilize the 63-72 style of bushing (rubber bushed rotating/threaded steel sleeve). C10's also utilized lighter spring rates front & rear (on average) vs the heavier duty trucks. As for engine brackets, I would imagine your issue is aftermarket parts related vs. C10/C20/30 related. |
Re: Engine mounting bracket help please
Thanks guys. The kit is definitely not going to work so I decided to buy ICT mounting brackets instead and use the original mounts with new clamshells. Probably should have gone this route from the start.
