Dome light switch help. Not wiring.

1 Attachment(s)
Having trouble finding this dome light switch. It is different than most I have seen. Anyway I need a part number, brand or a lead on where to find one. I don't really want to do a rivnut for the common style but will if I have to. The hole is too big for the other style which I have two new ones.
Thanks
Rick

See if you can see anything in these pictures. (I hope this link works OK)

Lock Doc the link worked but did not see one. Is this a rarity? It looks stock but everywhere shows the other style.

What year truck do you have? Can you post a picture of the other style switch you are talking about?

Loc Doc it is a 68 here is the other style that seems to be the most popular https://www.partsgeek.com/fwtr9wl-ch...tent=Chevrolet

That looks to me like the correct switch for our trucks. Is that what you have 2 of, but the door jamb hole is too big for them? If so, how much too big?

Stocker, The holes are just a little too big maybe 1/16". Both of my Jams are set up for the one in original post.

I have never had a truck with the first switch you posted. They have all had the one like the Wells switch.

I will see if I can remember to measure one of my original switches in the morning.

Any chance you could wrap the threads (on the new switch) with something metallic & conductive, then carefully thread the switches into place? No idea if it would work, and the only thing I can think to try is solder -- soft enough to conform to the door jamb hole, yet maybe firm enough to hold the switch in place.

Richard, This truck was so cobbled up it is hard to tell what was put on it. I think I will try those on Amazon. I had found some closer but they are in Australia. Fits some Commodore car of some kind. This build gets discouraging at times due to simple yet aggravating stuff like this. Get over a big milestone just to get stuck on something else. Anyway I'll keep plugging along but I do know why so many projects don't get finished it's been a long four years. Here I am today.

Not there.... but maybe insert a Riv-Nut to take the other type or drill to size to take your original.

Looks like Richard found what you need. I will go ahead and post up the pictures I took . Maybe someone else can use them for reference..

The outside of the threads mic out between .363 and .369. A 3/8 fine thread nut will screw onto all of them, except the one oddball. I have no idea what it is from.

The three shorter ones just don't have the wire retainer clip on end of them. On the factory installations the door jamb has a weld nut inside and the switches just screw into that.

A rivnut would be the way to go. I have the tool but do not have the head for a 3/8-24. I did order the switches Richard posted. The 2 new ones that I have are like Lock Doc's .Thanks for the help Richard and LockDoc

Looks a bit like these "universal" ones off fleabay
https://www.ebay.com/itm/294941231657

Searching the River shows similar options, maybe it's a pretty generic part:

Yes it is. How I knew to locate pretty quickly. Have used similar for car alarms, turning on accessories, etc in my past car audio/electronics jobs and experiences. Generics of the type actually used in the 67-72 trucks are pretty common as well.
Ditto on LockDocs post.
