Painting vinyl door panels 72

How are you guys prepping the door handles and panels before painting? What type of cleaners are best to use prior to paint?
Once painted to the final color are you shooting a clear on top?
If so gloss or satin?
Thanks

I used the plastic 1972 panels on my 1970. I cleaned with Dawn dish soap and warm water, then let dry. I then further cleaned with alcohol. I then used SEM Landau Black dye on the panels and installed new repro Counterpart arm rests. The Landau black is the right depth of color and sheen. These are original black panels that were slightly faded.

So that’s pretty straight forward. How many coats did you apply?

One more question, rattle can or spray gun?

3-4 light coats to prevent losing the detail of the grain.
