Anyone running a 6.5 turbo diesel or 6.2 diesel in their c10?
While I know they're weak, I think it would be fun for just a cruiser. Anyone done the swap?

I have one sitting in garage for the swap. Doing full frame and drivetrain swap at same time so I have been collecting parts forever. Good mpg and for me anyhow they have been reliable once I put manual glow plug setup on.
I have had 5 6.2 & 6.5 trucks before and like them, if I want to go fast I'll drive my chevelle lol. I will say out of all the trucks I have had them in my favorite was a 6.2 diesel backed by a silverado NV3500, it had good gear spacing unless you had a heavy load or trailer then I missed the low 1st of the SM465. Current project is going to be 6.2,SM465,4.10 gears and 35" tires so should be able to do interstate speeds. |

What type of build are you thinking about with it just stock truck repowered or something more custom?
I actually just picked up an 99 express van with the 6.5 turbo. Can't decide if I want to add the complexity of the electronic IP or swap it over to an older mechanical IP. I mainly wanted the serpentine drive assembly and improved water pump design. |

I personally don't have one but as a diesel mechanic for a day job I can say you'll definitely want to find a 6.5 with the mechanical injection pump and Not the electric injection pump. The later 6.5's had tons of problems with the electric injection pump that uses a PMD box. Even with the box relocated they aren't very reliable. The engines themselves last decently as long as you don't try to add tons of boost and fuel. I've only worked on a few as where I live in cummins and powerstroke territory but the few I've worked on had decent power for what they are.
