Sway bar install
 

I notice that most front sway bars end links attach to the lower control arm. Is there any reason that they can't attach to the upper control arms?

Maybe?
My question is why? GM did the engineering, which was the calculated solution based on cost and effectiveness.

Sometimes I ask questions on this sight that have to do with different projects than a Chevy truck just because I find that they’re are much more knowledgeable people on here than on a lot of different websites. The project I am actually working on is a F**d Thunderbird. I figured it was such a generic question that it would probably apply to any vehicle. The problem I am having is I ordered a heavier sway bar than came originally on the car and is supposed to fit, where the end links end up wanting to attach is different than the stock location. Where they now wast to connect is in a place that is almost impossible to attach the links to on the lower control arms. My thinking is that if there is a good mounting location on the upper control arms I might want to try that.

The reason you won't see them attached to the uppers much is that will usually put them in the way of the engine / radiator. The sway bar will do the same thing attached to upper or lower, everything else being equal.

Suggest talking to the place that sold it about how they intend it to work.

Or heading to pick a part with a tape measure and a free afternoon

Attaching to either upper or lower works. The bar needs to be able to cycle through its range w/o obstruction.
