I think you can buy a cover for that hole, if it isn't being used on your pickup.

1967-70 used a plastic push in cap. 1971-72 used a screwed on metal block off plate.

I came across a truck that had spray foam to fill it.

Yes, here's some info and pics to go with the two above replies, both the 67-70 and 71-72 styles of the firewall clutch rod delete block offs are readily available with most of the truck part vendors, see post #4 of the below linked older parts board f/s thread. Mel :chevy:
