door handles and hardwarwe
Hello all,
Painting my 91 burb and when removing the exterior door handle there is a small metal clip that hold the rod in place. Mine is toast. broke apart during removal. I emailed Brothers,, LMC catalog shows 91 as plastic but 73-82 as metal.. Anyway,, Anyone know of the correct part or a kit that includes it,, don;t mind buying the latch if that is what it takes here is the Brothers video on the removal process. time stamp,,,,,https://youtu.be/VlNxzhmXmrs?t=97 |

Re: door handles and hardwarwe
Look under GM 73-87 1/2 Trucks locking rod clip or inner door handle rod clip. One them should have them still. >> LMC, Rock Auto, Classic Parts of America. Dorman(Red?white package help written in corner) still may have old stock

Re: door handles and hardwarwe
please someone tell me there is an easy way to get these small clips off and back on the rear door.. I watched a video from brothers trucks but My guess is they edited out a lot of cursing.
What were they smoking? is it better to pull the entire latch assembly? i don't want to open another can of worms.. Chris |
Re: door handles and hardwarwe
Ok not that easy one of the easy ways is to pry up the top part of the metal clip to 28-30 % angle hold it there then slid down on the top at the same time to the first notch, pull out the rod the slid clip back into the locked place. When ready reinstall slide the rod back into the hole make sure clip locks the rod then your finished there. if you pop the clip to the second or passed it may fall off then you have to take out the latch fined the clip put the clip on in the closed spot then reassembly.

Re: door handles and hardwarwe
If you knock the clip off you most likely have to take out the latch out, can be put with latch mounted but very hard and you're going to mutter most likely in the back of your breath there both ways. There is knack and Luckey skill at doing it.

Re: door handles and hardwarwe
Having the same problem on the pass door, can only open the door from the inside, hard to get hand inside to do anything. :cuss:

Re: door handles and hardwarwe
Then the clip fell off or broken off you need to take off the inner panel to check the outer rod to the outside handle. See if it is just flapping in the wind as they say may or may not need a new clip and pop the 90end back in the clip.

Double Update,,,, STILL NO FIT,, too narrow by .030.. even with the latch, rod and clip on the bench,, it will not go together. |
Re: door handles and hardwarwe
What year are you working with, and a pic might help. I be leave that the newer rods are fatter and needs the plastic clips. Dorman use to have them, Rock Auto, LMC, Classic Parts of America.
Rods with grove at the end uses steel clip- no grove rods use plastic clips. |
