Manual to auto swap
 

Hey everyone, I'm swapping from a manual transmission to auto transmission in a 1972 C10 and am wondering about the brake pedal. From what I can tell on LMC the pedal size is the same between a manual and auto. I'm curious about the spacing between the gas and brake. Is it the same between the two? Also any other tid bits of info on the swap would be appreciated. Switching from 3 on the tree to a turbo 350(i have a turbo 350 on hand already). Putting an auto tilt column out of a van into it. No idea what i will need for linkages. Need a new transmission crossmember, the old one was on the manual bell housing. Not sure what crossmember will fit, one out of a squarebody maybe? There aren't any older c10s around me to get parts from

You can use the same pedal assembly. Just remove the clutch pedal.

Pretty straight forward swap, if you want to sell the clutch linakge parts from the firewall to clutch arm id be interested

OER makes a reproduction of the original automatic transmission. I have no personal experience with it.

This thread has some good photos of the shift linkage that should help. The linkage connection at the transmission is a bit convoluted.

I'm in the process of doing this in my '67 except I'm going from a 4-speed to TH350.

I used a tilt column from a '79 van, and it actually bolted right in. The van column seems slightly longer because now there is less space between the steering wheel and the seat (good thing I'm slim).

I found a used auto trans cross member online and had it sandbalsted and painted.

That jegs one in the link that was provided above is a good deal. I paid more all in for mine. One thing to consider is what you want to do with the exhaust pipes.

There are aftermarket options for cross members that work better with custom dual exhaust setups.

I see you're in the Edmonton area. Not sure if you need more parts and how far you're willing to venture out, but theres a fellow in the Millarville, AB area that has several parts trucks on his farm and he is quite reasonable with pricing. Let me know if you'd like his contact info.
