Does a 4L80E clear a low hump floor?
Change of plans (well maybe) on my 72 C10 build. I was going to use a 700R4 behind my 427 BB. The 4L80E would be a much better choice BUT will it clear the low hump floor?

Re: Does a 4L80E clear a low hump floor?
Depends on where the engine is, but yeah it should. It'll be tight but it will fit. I don't think the bell area is an larger than a T400. My 69 GMC has a low hump floor, T400 with a big block in front of it mounted in the factory holes. I can get my hand between the lip of the floor pan and the top of the trans. I've actually thought about doing the conversion myself and getting rid of the 400/ gear vendor set up

I've never done it but I know that the pinch weld is sometimes trimmed when stuffing a bigger trans into the low hump.

Re: Does a 4L80E clear a low hump floor?
I put a 4L80E in my low hump 68 behind a 454. It is tight, and I had to raise the tail end as high as I could and shim the rear axle to get the driveshaft angle corrected. But my truck is also lowered 4 inches in the rear. Ended up about 5/8 to 3/4 inch clearance between the trans and the floor. The biggest problem is getting the tail of the trans high enough. The rest clears ok. I couldn't remember so I just went out and looked, and I did bend the pinch weld to give more clearance. I had already bought a high hump to install, but I had fitted a two cup cupholder to the front of the bench seat, and I didn't want to give up the cupholder, so I did it with the low hump.

Ls and 4l80e here and i did grind on the pinch weld for added clearance. Gave zero clearance issues and as far back as ls swap mounts go

Although I do not doubt them, these answers really surprise me.
I am going to eventually do the same swap and so I have been looking for a high hump. |

5.3 4l80, no issues at all.
