I have two of them. Both require subscriptions. I can't imagine how you would communicate with a tracker unless you have a subscription service. Maybe an Apple air tag...

Re: GPS Tracker

Trackers that have GPS and cell service require a subscription. Less expensive subscription trackers cost $120 to $180 up front and include subscription for the first couple years, then $20/year after that. In the long run that is pretty cheap.

An Apple air tag relies on a stranger's iPhone that has bluetooth enabled coming within bluetooth range of the tag before it's location is reported by that nearby iPhone over its cell service network, to Apple, then to the air tag owner (you). If it is the truck theif's iPhone doing the reporting, the thief will get a warning displayed on their iPhone saying an unknown air tag is moving along with them. An air tag or tile is not a tracking device with GPS and over the air reporting, it is just a short range bluetooth sensor that entices a nearby phone to GPS locate and use its cell service to report location on the tag's behalf. Apple's warning is for safety to let people know they have an air tag planted on them and a stalker that could track them home.

I considered the options and prefer a tracker that has GPS and cell service and subscription.

What's the use of disabling an AirTag speaker if it's transmitting a tracking notification anyway? Harder to find?

I have an ATUVOS card hidden in the seat. Its slim like a credit card and you can link it to your phone.

I have one in my wallet as well in case it goes missing.

This is what I used for my truck. It came with a 2 year subscription included. When I sold the truck I was able to transfer it to the new owner.

Re: GPS Tracker

Did you connect it to constant power and do you know how much a refill subscription costs?

Re: GPS Tracker

I've been wondering about this.
Just this week some local guy was charged after some type of trackers were found on seven people's cars. Police believe there may be 10 other vehicles out there with trackers on them.
I've had vehicles stolen and it would be nice to be able to find them quickly.

No need to connect it to constant power. The app on your phone will show when it gets near needing charged back up. I probably only had to charge it a couple times during the time I had it.
As far as the subscription price, I don’t know. I transferred it to the new owner before the free 2 years was up. If you go to the link for the gps tracker, it probably states what the subscription would be. In my opinion, it would be worth it whatever it is.

Thank you and I think with your info/explanation I will bite the bullet and get a subscription one. I plan to do some long trips and will be parking at times in unfamiliar areas over night. I have already have a starter kill on the truck.

What I did before I decided on the one that I had gotten, was watch a few videos that explained how theirs worked. And I believe they even had a video that did comparisons on several different trackers & tags.
Once I watched a few videos, I understood how everything worked, so it helped me make my decision on which one to get.
They showed in the videos how to setup it up and set al the settings/perimeters and such. I have to see videos of stuff like this being done, or else I just don’t understand lol.

Keep in mind one of the obstacles with these older trucks we drive is the lack of plastics in their construction, metal blocks signals coming and going. If you want to keep it hidden or a little harder to find and still have satisfactory performance, you will have to get creative.

I didn’t have any issues with the signal. Mine looked like a small thin fob. It was easy to hide inside the cab.
I really can’t say enough good things about the one I used. I highly recommend it. I have even made several posts on my FB Page for the seatbelts that I restore. I get a lot of truck owners on my page, so I recommended it.
