Thankyou all. This forum has a lot of nice trucks and friendly helpful people on it. I have been a member since 2004.
The 59 GMC Fleet is unique for sure. Here is what I think I have found out about the 58 (1/2 ton only) and 59 GMC (1/2 and 3/4 ton) Fleet option truck. This truck was originally the dark green used by the US Forest Service before they went to today's light green. So, I think Forest Sevice. The front grill, bumper, and single headlights are GMC oem with the Fleet option as well as the dash. This truck came with the GMC 270 and 3 on the tree and also a heater. The 270 engine was longer than the chevy 6's so it has the GMC indentation in the firewall. So I guess they were a GMC cabs with a chevy dash installed instead of the GMC separate gauge dash. The glove box is chevy. The dash glass with GMC is only on the Fleet option. Had 16" wheels. I have not found out what year the actual single headlights that were used by GMC - maybe early 55 or late 55-57. I think they were painted steel (white) not stainless. dunno I used 57. The 4wd axles are 85 on the 59 frame with a 350/700R4/NP208 - 3.73 gearing. Drives pretty good. I have not seen an oem Napco Fleet option truck on the web but maybe. Thanks all again. 8-) |

Re: February 2025 ToTM - Skip to My Lou
My first vehicle I bought was a 1958 Apache 3100 (back in 1975). It was a very clean 283 3speed truck with all the chrome accessories. I added chrome rear wheels, dual exhaust and added bucket seats and a Muncie M21 four speed from a 65 Impala SS.
