Splitting Fuel Sending Unit Wires

Im planning on running an autometer fuel gauge. Can I tie the stock sending unit wire together with the auto meter one and run both gauges. Thanks

I don't think so. The wire gives a resistance to ground from the sending unit but tying 2 gauges together will probably skew the reading.

Re: Splitting Fuel Sending Unit Wires

It might work by inserting a diode in each lead from the gauges before they are tied together and connected to the sender. While the diode has a lot of resistance one way and very little the other way. I am thinking the small amount of resistance the diode has in the way it flows would not really affect the gauge reading enough to see. Not an electrical engineer so what I am proposing may be hog wash? Sure there are smart people here that could shoot me down or confirm my thoughts.
