"Rio" ~ 1968 gmc swb

1 Attachment(s)
Well, for those who know me well I have been pretty
depressed these last several years. Truck shows with
out the Blazer has made me irritable, even rubbed a
few friends the wrong way along the journey. (Sorry)

I sold my Kodiak, and spent some of the money on
the 72, but been overwhelmed by the state she was
in when I went and collected it from the painter. We
parted ways mutually, and no she is not completed.
(Hoping this spring I can get motivated on it again)

I bought this truck based on the pictures, only have
done this once ever before, and this time I might of
gotten something a little less than I paid. However,
she is exactly what I was looking for, so after a few
repairs (Radiator blew on way home after delivery)
I will get her out on the road. I have plans for her
to be on the 2025 GM TAILGATE TOUR this March.

She is from SC, been up and down E coast I have
been told, it's been at Daytona Turkey Run, and it
found it's way out to NM. So Her names "RIO" like
the 80's Duran Duran song since the last owner is
from Rio Rancho. Now she has a home in West TN.

What are my plans, well I will make a few subtle
changes to make her my own, but ZERO exterior
work is planned. Interior already fresh and clean.
(Yes I know, will have to change my siggy again)

I already have room booked and vacation approved,
only question will be what I am bringing to the show.

Had no idea about the meeting, been going the last
several years, please keep me updated on day/time.

It was to be painted Black, and I'm pretty sure she
will be black (primer) for a awhile. I have to get it
running again, and have some new parts to install.

I have over 100 pics of this one already, but pics
account has share disabled for the moment. Will
try to get a few more posted in next few weeks.

Re: "Rio" ~ 1968 gmc swb

Well, I have only ever bought 2 trucks online sight unseen.

One went flawlessly and was nicer than the pictures. it was
in 2010, and Wife and I flew in to CA, drove it home to TN.

Then there is "Rio", I thought I asked all the questions, but
sometimes things do not go as planned. Pretty sure the guy
I got her from didn't build the truck, so not here to bash on
him. Just here to add to my thread current update on truck.

Bought online as said in February, Had it shipped from NM
to TN. Arrived in less then week after purchased. I drove it
off the transport truck at work into the parking lot. The wife
took me to work, and came out there to follow me home. It
ran great until .5 from house when the radiator let go. Just
down the road so limped it home. (The Motor appeared ok)

Ordered a radiator, first one arrived damaged, second was
good, but that whole process was over 2 weeks before the
install. While I was waiting the TC drained back into Trans
Pan since she wasn't being driven and all the leaks started.

Finally got her together snd drove her to a local trans shop
where she spent another week having leaks fixed. On way
home the temp gauge was all over the place. Was thinking
bad gauge, turns out that i'm pretty sure was heater core.

On the way home, I also did't like the brakes and how they
felt. Truck had a 5 lug conversion, and disc brakes up front.
Took the rear drums off (Like new) and seen the (Like new
shiny axles, and axle seals) However shoes on DS gone, on
PS almost gone, and 1 WC was leaking as well. (1 like new)

Rear brakes are done, new battery terminals since mine old
and possibly original. Have a few things to do today and we
plan to test drive her here in the country. If all goes well it
will be loaded on a trailer and headed East Sunday morning.

I plan to take her on the GM Tailgate Tour, do not even have
100 miles logged on her yet. So everyone wish me luck. :uhmk:

We thrashed on her for a few hours Sunday night before
the tour, ended up circling back in the morning. We had
a small issue not 30 minutes down the road the day of,
we had to turn around and go back. Luckily we were not
far from his house, and we had to torch a crossmember.

She completed the 1200+ miles almost flawlessly, I had
the time of my life. Already planning to go on 2026 trip.

Well I could have went, I had tickets but I had to catch a plane to work Sunday morning so I didn't want the stress of having to cannon ball back home Saturday. I'll catch it for sure next year.

Not on here as much as I once was, but nice to hear from you.

I have almost bought that one back twice, both times the price
was more than I could stomach. Still one of my biggest regrets.

A lot has changed since then, I finally built a shop. (Link below)
