72 exhaust

Does anyone know if 73 -74 c10 tail pipes that are leaf spring trucks work on a 72 leaf spring truck. All the 2.5 inch kits and tail pipes state "coil spring only". No one seems to know even the companies who sell them. I do not want to take it to a exhaust shop, and prefer stainless if possable! The system I have now is 2.25" and 40 years old and needs replacement. When I bought it back then there was no "coil or leaf spring only"and it fit just fine! Any help here?

i don't know if 73-74 tail pipes would work but i wouldn't be surprised if you could make them work?i have a 72 leaf spring truck and ordered my tail pipes from Waldron's Exhaust in Michigan and have for a few cars and trucks, talked a nice lady there,Ruth.when i ordered my pipes,i specified making them from 2 1/4 pipe and paid $20.00 more i think it was,i think with everything they make, they will use stainless if you ask for it?

Emailed Waldrons they told me they will not make any exhaust bigger than the stock 2". Guess they don't want to get involved with any of that performance upgrade nonsence.

Tell them it's a big block truck. They came with 2.5" pipes stock.

well that's nuts.i've dealt with Ruth a couple of times and found her very easy to work with.i think the last time i looked at Waldron's they had to 3 inch for some applications, stainless or regular pipe?the big block trucks had 2 1/2 front pipes from the engine to the mufflers and mine had 2 inch tail pipes, factory.i asked for their tailpipes but made from 2 1/4 not 2 inch and it was $20.00 more, but no problem?they're on my truck now.

I put the Flowmaster American Thunder kit on my '72 with coil springs and it was a fantastic fit that did pretty much just bolt on, with a few holes with easy to use templates/measurements. Used flex hose to connect from my headers to the exhaust until I can get to a shop and have that connection made.

Might be worth looking at the kit from the perspective of turning out ahead of the wheel, or doing custom outlets but being able to use the rest of the kit.

Not so much any more. As the smaller brands struggled, Holley snapped them up.

They must have changed their policy about sizes, unless maybe for special customers?

You know reading this, it made think. Whats sad and probly true is that they produced a kit for some dick head that got a ticket or something along the lines and some how go out of it by blaming the exhaust kit manufacturer for the size not being stock sizing and the company lost money due to that and is now policy.

Made me think of Mcdonalds and the hot coffee label on the cups story. Might not be true but knowing people these days trying to be slick......

My FiL had a new exhaust system installed on what is now my wife's and my truck. Had it done at a muffler shop. I'm getting too old to crawl under my truck in the driveway and install a new system. Doesn't need it, but when it does, it's going to a muffler shop.
