1947 900 series cab question
 

Were these cabs unique to the 900 series, I'm looking for a 900 series to restore and was wondering. I have the 1939-48 parts book but it's hard to tell. Book says same cab for 750 to 900 but then says 950 to 970 conventionals.

What year 900 are you looking for? In 1938-1946 rule of thumb was that GMC's up to the 450 series used the smaller Chevy cabs, 500 and bigger trucks used the larger GMC heavy duty cab. In 1947 when the Chevy 'Advanced Design' cab was introduced GMC used it on trucks up to the 600 series, and in 1949 GMC introduced a new larger heavy duty cab, sometimes referred to as the 'Fat Cab', for the 700-900 trucks. The Fat Cab was actually used until 1962 on some short-nose conventionals. All these cabs, large and smaller 'Chevy' versions, came as both conventional and cab-over. The only major difference was the front sheetmetal and floors.

I'm really looking for a 900 series before fat cab so 1947-48 I think.
