67 CST Review Mirror Question

2 Attachment(s)
Just picked up a pretty original and complete 67 CST and the rear view mirror is puzzling me as I have never seen this arm before with a truck, but I have never dealt with alot of the 1 year only stuff on a 67. Is this something 67's had or is this a mirror someone added at some point?

Re: 67 CST Review Mirror Question

Looks correct to me. Remember the mirror was still an option in 67. Not sure if it was part of the CST option however.

Rear view mirror was in fact standard in 67.

On the cst correct ? My 68 had no mirror or holes where a mirror had been . My other 68 is a custom and again no holes or mirror . Someone did put a later glue on rear view mirror at some point

My early production '69 CST 20 which I bought new did not have an inside mirror. I think the salesman told me the 20s and 30s did not have them. They may have been added later in the year though.

This would make sense. I was pretty sure the mirror became standard in 69. Maybe all the 1/2 tons had them and optional on 3/4 and up trucks before 69.

Re: 67 CST Review Mirror Question

According to the 1969 data book, the 1/2T trucks were so equipped. But that book doesn't discuss the 3/4T and up.

The link 1970cstblazer posted is for'67 and says that all 1/2T (p20) and 3/4T (p43) Stepside and Fleetside trucks came with three mirrors. But Suburbans did not come standard with inside rear view mirrors.

Looks just like the rear view in my 67 custom cab.

No it doesn't. It shows pickups got two mirrors standard. A left hand mirror & a rearview.

I don’t think that’s correct . Both of my trucks were 100% original with no rear view mirrors . Weren’t the rear views all screwed into the roof panel at the time ? Again neither of my trucks had mirrors and no holes where the mirror would have been .

It has come up often on this site

My 68 c10 Golden 100% original vehicle. Don’t have pictures of my other 68 but I installed a rear view in it .

Well if you look at the 67 data book linked above that is what it says. If you look at my signature the wife & I have three 67s all base models. All have that same mirror, no mirrors listed on the SPID. Pretty damn sure it's correct. Don't know how mirror was mounted in later years. Of note it does say that cab & chassis & stake models don't have an inside mirror
Also in your linked threads there is only one response from someone with a 67 & he states that his truck has a mirror

Why would GM make a rear view mirror standard on a 67 and then make it an option in later years ?

Re: 67 CST Review Mirror Question

Both of the plain Jane 67 Chevy trucks we have, have the same mirror bracket your showing. I thought there was also a chrome mirror bracket package or option with the CST. My sons 67 GMC 1 ton dump truck, plian Jane, has no mirror no mount holes or dimples for that matter. There are dimples to place the screws for the optional passenger sun visor.

It's pretty obvious to me that some had them and some didn't. It could be as simple as what assembly plant they came from.... It is also pretty obvious that any '67 that doesn't have any holes above the windshield didn't come with a rear view mirror, since that was the only place they were installed in '67.....

Just my 2¢ worth.

Re: 67 CST Review Mirror Question

GM did do some weird stuff factory to factory . My 66 SS Chevelle was original paint when I bought it in 1984 ugly Aztec Gold . The rear taillight panel was not painted black . Come to find out the Atlanta plant where my car was built did do very early SS cars with the panel blacked out but due to it slowing down the line it was abandoned. My car is an early car as it has the 5 hole hood the later cars had 3 holes . Guess it wasn’t early enough to get the blackout .

Also learned that some dealers were adding the blackout because people complained that the sales brochure showed it . Guys with way more knowledge of these say you can tell if it was factory or dealer by the tape lines . Most dealers didnt remove the trim specially the trim around the tailights .

That is exactly what occurred for 1968. If you look at the 1968 data book, only the exterior fixed arm mirrors were standard equipment. The inside rearview mirror was optional. The RPO code was D36.

In 1969, the inside rearview mirror along with the LH&RH fixed arm mirrors were standard.

A dump truck would have left the factory as a cab & chassis therfore no inside mirror. My comments are only in regards to pickup trucks.

To make more money same reason manufacturers do it today? Really I don't know but the data book clearly shows that all 67 pickups should have an inside mirror.

OK can anyone show a 67 with a pickup VIN number that obviously has never had an inside mirror. Again only with a VIN from a pickup
