junkyardin' and road trippin'... again...

Well, i did my yearly trip down south again and had a blast. Have made a few good friends down there over the years and always finding new yards to hit. Decatur texas is my main goal for the swap, but the cold weather kept many vendors at home again i think.
Left here at -7 degrees and stayed in MO and woke up to a -24 windchill. Pic 3 is my pool in MO... No i didn't go in!

Evidently Kansas had a pretty good snow just before i got there.
Second pic is at the swap meet. Mid 20s that morning.
And some misc buildings.
I should add that my whole trip got flipped around due to all of the cold that was in the midwest for a week or so. I did the swap first and then went yardin'.

The ochre burb was on facebook.
The next 4 pics is at a private yard in Texas. He is checking on getting a title for the ochre and white one for next year for me.

Scored some newer dashes at a big truck yard.

Pic 3 and 4 are showing a 67 C-60 with a big back window. Usually the bigger trucks all had small windows well into the 70s at least. I also saw a C-60 with a small window and an optional cargo light!

Still some parts left, but not a lot, these have been in this closed yard for along time.

I should add that only a couple days after the swap it was in the 80s... Almost too warm for this northern boy... almost

Thanks for posting. I could see where temps in the 20's could keep some vendors and people away from an outdoor meet. Nice pics.

These are from a different yard i go to every year. I have picked parts and pieces from this yard for years. The owner scrapped every 67-72 except for one he couldn't get to. This is all that remains in pic 1.
And misc pics...

At least it wasn't -40 windchills when i got home. 3245 miles and 7 different states total. No break downs this year.
Here is the final tally of the junk i bought.
Those white wagon wheels are 15x8, 8 lug. Kind of odd.

Looks like you had a good trip despite some crappy weather. Glad you made it this time without any break down episodes.... :)

Thanks for sharing those pics.

I could use those 1969-70 C/20 emblems for my current project if they aren't all pitted up.:chevy:

Sounds like a great time even though the weather was bad. Seen a couple of stepsides in your pictures, did any of them by any chance have a good rear drivers fender with the cut out for the spare?

I was there at Decatur. It was cold for sure on Thursday and Friday. But Saturday turned out to be a really nice day. The swap meet personal provided beans and cornbread for all of the vendors Thursday afternoon. Truthfully that was worth the cold weather. And they had a variety of deserts. Hopefully next year the weather will be more on the warmer side.

I spy quite a few trucks with brush guards. Man I wish that I could find one of those around me. It seems like they are rare in my neck of the woods. Maybe they are more of a southern thing. I saw two or three on the trucks you posted

I didn't see any good step fenders other than the one i bought and it did not have a cut out.

I was there 1/2 the day on sat also and it was getting pretty decent, but still not many vendors.

Good eye, it may be. It is a floor shift tilt.

Well, thanks for the reply. I already have a derelict '67 K/10 Suburban on the property. Farmers Insurance Totalled it for me and issued a Salvage Title after a carburetor fire in 1998. [I was naive about insurance then.]
And it has a Big Block. Packrats heard they call them Rat Motors, so they moved right in.

Someday, I'll rebuild it. Maybe I'll blow my Union Annuity funds on rebuilding a 292 L6/SM465/T221/ [Post '71 D44 w/ P/S, PB front end/ 12 Bolt 3.73 Posi Rear.
If I ever retire.
