Washer Motor Wiring Help?

1 Attachment(s)
I’d like to put an aftermarket washer fluid motor in my 1969 c10. Previous owner has an aftermarket reservoir in the engine bay but no pump.

How would i wire an aftermarket pump to the push button switch on the dash?

Thank You

There should be two wires going to the electric solenoid that engages the existing mechanical pump mounted on the motor. Typically yellow and dark blue.

Locate those two wires, unplug them from the old washer pump, and splice or plug some extension wires into them.

Run those extension wires out to your new pump. The new pump is likely polarity sensitive. The existing yellow wire is +12V and the existing dark blue wire is a switched ground (gets grounded to complete the circuit when you push the washer button).

This may help. Found it on the American Autowire schematic for their Classic Update harness:

WIPER SWITCH
Black Low speed ground
Light Blue High speed ground
Dark Blue Washer pump ground

They don't show yellow, but as Ray said, it's 12 volts, either ignition or accessory.

Yeah, the yellow power feed wire doesn't go to the switch ... just to the motor & pump.

OK, that explains it.

This is how I connected my external washer pump.. I left the original factory plug in place and just added wires to connect to the pump.. I passed the wires through the grommet where the original water hoses passed through the firewall into the engine compartment. I also use matching color coded wires. The added feature of this modification is water for the pump is no longer routed into the cab interior...
