71 Tailgate Band Refurb Question

Hi, I have a 71 C10 Cheyenne with the wood trim on the sides and tail gate band. The wood grain vinyl tape is long gone so I purchased new tape. I pulled the tail gate band off to remove the chevrolet letters and see they are riveted on. I was thinking remove the letters, apply the tape and remount them. I can drill or grind off the rivet head but then how do you reattach the letters? Any help from someone who has done this before would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the links, looks like adhesive or jb weld is the answer.

No problem.

I think either would work. I would probably lean towards the JB Weld myself. Just make sure the letters are tight against the face of the band while it is drying.
