Alternator wires

Morning everyone.

I am looking for pictures of how the alternator wires are routed to the voltage regulator ,batter. Previous owner used n aftermarket red wire coming out from the alternator straight across to voltage regular then under the fan shroud to a post then to the battery. This wire is not even taped up so i want to re do the harness so it doesnt chafe against anything and toast the truck.
I am thinking harness it went to the inner fender well first?
72 chevy c 10 4.1 is externally regulated alt.

Thanks in advance.

This link goes to my repair thread and post 467 starts the information on how I replaced the external regulated alternator with an internal regulated alternator. I believe there should be enough photos to help you. If something is missing I may have some photos I didn't post.

Sorry these aren't the best but this is from my '70 Blazer
The red wire (looks like 8 or 10 ga)on the VR goes into a harness you see in the lower center part of the top picture, to the Alt along with the other wires that are plugged into the VR. Hope this helps!

The factory harness had little clips attached to one of the wires that were then secured with a non-adhesive vinyl wrap. There were four of these clips in the alternator/headlight harness that popped into holes in the sheet metal in the following four locations:

1) Inside driver fender behind hood hinge

2) Inside driver fender up high at the front

3) Back of radiator support near voltage regulator

4) Inner fender near where steering column passes through it.

Inline Tube sells these clips as part number INL11134.

There was also a plastic coated metal clip that anchored the wires to the alternator, and another similar one on the firewall. There was a plastic gutter that contained the wires that run over to the passenger headlight and battery. The vinyl wrap and gutter can be purchased from all of the main truck parts vendors.

I eliminated the external voltage regulator, but I kept the factory routing for the harness.
