Power Windows or not?
 

My wife is pushing for power windows in my truck
and really I find it to costly.
I was wondering you guys that have power windows,
do you find it really that necessary?

I would rather put that $ towards a stereo system and put the
PW's later down on the list of to do's.

If you have good regulators and handles now, power windows are something that can be done later if you decide to. Most of the good kits aren't intrusive nor call for a bunch of modifications to the doors.

All three of my later model (although not actually late model) trucks have manual windows so my wife doesn't give it much of a thought.

if you decide to proceed with power, nu-relics.com from my view point is the best system to put in these old trucks. i have their window mechanisms in 2 of my streetrods and will do so in the 55 chevy truck im building.

I don't "get" WANTING power windows in a 70 year old truck, nor deleting wing windows either but that's me wanting why old truck want to BE an old truck. Just with more power and much nicer appearance.

The manual windows in my '52 are easy to crank, far easier than my new truck, '95 no option Sonoma.

The '52 has buckets and I made the center console a comfortable height to match my 5 speed shifter, but it is too tall to easily lean over and roll down the passenger side while driving. That is a bit of a nuisance, but I'm sticking with manual crank. I can always open the vent window wide and pop the cowl vent, opening the pass window too would just be a misplaced luxury.

If you have a good set of OE regulators, I'd keep them manual.

Mine were pretty worn out and I bought some repops - quality was disappointing. QC was not very good and it was missing one of the rollers right out of the box so I had to scavange it of the origninal. It isn't super smooth rolling the window up and down and it doesn't quite have eneough range at the max adjustment to get the glass all the way into the channel.

The nurelics are quite a bit more expensive than the chinesium manual regulators, but if I had to do it over again, I'd buy the nurelics

I put a major brand power window kit in my '49 and I regret it.
They dont work smoothly, bind going up. Down is ok. Has new channels. If I take the winder off the motor they slide up and down fine. Does help if I use silicone spray in the channel but that only helps for a short time.
Should have kept the old cranks.

In all honesty depending on her age she may have never ridden in a vehicle without power windows as they have been pretty well standard equipment even on boxes with wheels since the mid 90's.

I won't say my wife of 55 and almost 56 years doesn't grumble a bit about manual windows but it isn't the end of the world to her. Actually she grumbles less when riding in the 77 1 ton as it is the smoothest riding rig we have on the place.

I put power windows in my truck back in 1979. I sold that cab and will not be putting them in this one. I drive a 2005 Pontiac Sunfire every day without power windows, it's amazing how I have survived. LOL
Honestly, I am looking forward to driving an "old truck" without power brakes, no discs, manual transmission, vacuum wipers, no computer telling me that my tires are low on air. Yep, I am looking forward to the old days.
