Rear Fender Question

I need a new fender for my short bed 55 chevy truck. It has the spare tire cutout which I want to keep. LMC and others only show the fender with spare tire cutout for Long beds. Question is are the fenders the same for long and short beds.

I'm not sure on TF trucks but the best idea might be to make a pattern of the indent on your old fender and take it along to lay over the long bed fender's indent along with photos of your fender if you don't drive the truck there for comparison.

This fender is in that mess of parts that guy has on FB in Mt Vernon.

Re: Rear Fender Question

shortbed and long bed are different spare tire cutout

post 10 here shows picture https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...d.php?t=698492

edit: On closer inspection, i think the green truck in post 10 linked above has a modified fender, there is less fender showing between the lip and cutout. the picture mr48chev shows above and the Canadian truck in post 13 at link look like OEM fender.
I've seen more than one fender that did not have a OEM cutout but had been worked over with a sledge hammer to create a cavity for tire mount

Re: Rear Fender Question

I believe the fenders are the same. Only the bedsides and steps are different lengths.

Cheers, Jim

Per Leegreens post and the photo and discussion I remember, Yuppers there is a big difference in the cut outs for the spare. That one I posted appears to be for a long bed according to this photo.

As my old dog Tags used to say, this one is a bit ruff but it is a TF short box fender notched out for a spare. In Walla Walla but the add is 16 weeks old so most likely it is off making dump runs for someone else. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...15147230%22%7D

Thanks Mr48chev. I think I'm going to salvage my original. I'm not the best welder and fabricator but I need to learn. Sparks, arcs, puddles, and holes.

Re: Rear Fender Question

As long as the indent is reasonably decent the rest of it is the same as a fender without then indent. You might find a "kinda good" fender that has what you need to patch yours.

The main thing is don't get in a big hurry with the welding.

Good advice. I haven't pulled the fender off yet because Im waiting for the new bed panels. They have a lot of rust pin holes showing so Im concerned about the flange on the fender. Thanks
Steve

I spotted this one in Eugene a minute ago. Not much there except that fender though. Not as rough as the other one. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...58179062%22%7D
