Clevis/D-ring on the front
Ok... This is just me thinking aloud but is there a way to put usable clevis D-rings on the front bumper/leaf spring mounts? Like can I just put longer grade 8 or better bolts in there and an appropriately sized clevis D-ring? To use for recovery/towing/winching?

Re: Clevis/D-ring on the front
There's always a way but if it was my truck and I needed to extract it from a mud hole I would want to hook directly to the frame. That would bypass the bumper mount brackets that will bend or deform under a heavy pull. I'd bet that's why the factory tow hooks came attached to the frame.

Now the question is how did that guy in picture 12 on that website mount a winch behind his factory bumper... *thinking*?

I picked up a pair of these, incorrect for our trucks, military surplus tow hooks at a swap meet for $25 several years ago. These are not uncommon to find at swap meets. Although some folks seem to value them as much as a set of correct 72 tow hooks.
Another option is a fair number of late model trucks in wrecking yards have tow hooks on them. Or these. https://engineeredvintage.com/produc...ckle-tow-hooks |

This was brought up in the following thread by Orange_Crate and is what I always planned on buying, but I may have waited too long. https://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vbo...d.php?t=802535 Lots of guys have used squarebody and now GMT400, and some guys have even gone to GMT800 and newer and even F*rd and D*dge products. Just about anything can be made to fit with enough work. |
