no more square body for me
my 80 3/4 ton 4x4 left last night headed to arizona, my son has been after that truck ever since i bought it. i was going to turn it into a 73 GMC so it wouldn't need to be smogged, i have everything needed to do it, but a cop buddy told me its a felony if you get caught so i got cold feet. oh well now i have some 73 sierra grande stuff to get rid of if i ever figure out how to post pictures off my cell phone.

Re: no more square body for me
Sounds like a happy ending. I would get cold feet too changing a vin. It's not worth it.

You can start a For sale thread and text me the pictures and I will Gladly post them for you. |
Re: no more square body for me
At the risk of being annoying what would make anyone think swapping VINs was anything but illegal?

Re: no more square body for me
Over 25 years ago I purchased a 1986 K20 that had the VIN plate changed but it was the same truck. The original cab was rusted beyond repair and the body shop was able to get a southern 1985 cab from a K10. They had to have the State Police witness the numbers on the frame and the removal of the tag from the original cab as well as attaching the original VIN tag to the doner cab. The State Police provided the rivets that looked original. This was considered a "repair" and the VIN tag still matched the frame when completed. Had the shop done that without the State Police approval, it would not have been legal. I do not know if they can still do that today.

Re: no more square body for me
Location dependant. Here, thanks to fiberglass jeep tubs being a thing, if you transplant the dash (with the vin attached) no problem.
