Rear door gap filler
 

Asked abou ugly ass hinges on barn Doors, Whule studing on them some the huge gap between them and uneven space between windows and center has started to but crap out of me.

Anyone ever seen anything about closing the gap some. There is good 1/2 or so that need filled in. I have idea what to do but lot of work hoping better idea around.

So since ni replys I am guessing fix is butt load of work or never bothered anyone else. Only ficx I have come up with is welding a piece from to to bottom that fills in the gap. I would have be channel piece so 2x weld amd re[p;ac,emt ifda,aged by toadays retards on the road it would be ungod;ly costly repair.
When get everythging else done I will attack. In other words I have plenty of time to figure how to fix.LOL

I have a screwy gap on the barn doors on my panel truck but it doesn't really bother me. It's just a driver.... I thought about shimming out the top hinges on both sides but haven't got around to trying it yet.

If talking same gap it would take lot of shi, and leave bi gaps between doors and body. Plus not sure inside section would allow. It looks like they left 3 times the space needed for doors to clear when opening and closing.

I think spme sheetmetal bent 90* and the shaped with stratcher and shrinker and little bit of weld(7' or so) will fix it. Yea butt load of work for something most never give second thought to.

I swapped the liftgate out for barn doors on mine. I have roughly 1/4 to 3/8” gap almost all the way around, possibly a bit larger at the top but overall pretty even.

mine is even around it just middle is huge. closer to half inch

I will start by stating i am not a body man, but try it out of necessity. I replaced my hatch/tailgate with barn doors because those were rusted and falling apart and it impossible to find new ones. Did you rebuild your hinges? Pins and bushings, so your starting with stable hinges. I had to bend my hinges in a press because the doors were touching at the top when closing. I believe after 50 plus years of abuse they bend. I only bent the tops which helped open the top and close slightly at the bottom. As stated above some shims do help move the doors. You can try 1/16 in or 1/8 inch which can move the door gap a good bit. Also, to provide input on your other question, I think you should keep the utilitarian hinges as they are. It gives the old Subs character.
