Lowering with 2pc shaft
wondering if will need to move carrier bearing when lower rear 4" and installing custom crossmember with adjustable trailing arm mounts?
If need to move. Any ideas as to how much? I can make adjustment to it when building crossmember since have to make a bracket for it any way. Would be lot eaiser with body off but just not doable right now and waiting to build would just be another delay later on. |
Re: Lowering with 2pc shaft
Have not taken any measurements or checked angles as is since have some stuff pulled down for making shock mounts and mounting them. Just a thought I had while working under truck.

Re: Lowering with 2pc shaft
It will help driveline angles if the carrier bearing is moved up slightly.

Re: Lowering with 2pc shaft
If something wrong with this let me know.
Will be lowering rear 4 inches < so rear end moving up 4,transmission not moving any and carrier bearing roughly mid way, not quite but close. Thinking need to raise it 2" give or take. Plus moving trailing arm mounting point about 3.5 and seems to be about same degrees. Believe 3* out is max for shafts, pinion and output, Front and rear shafts need to be about dead on alignment., If build new crossmember will have adjustable mounting points for trailing arms. Know me I will be building it and easy to have another hole above in case of. Since rear moving up 4",trailing arm mounting point 3.5" and carrier about 2". I should be almost stock angles every where? Correct or missing something? |
Re: Lowering with 2pc shaft
Belltech includes a 2" spacer for the carrier bearing on some of their aggressive drop kits (6"). You could try that & see what happens. Reduce from there if necessary.

Re: Lowering with 2pc shaft
Can make spacer if needed. Main tool I own is Bridgeport mill. Like me its old but gets the job done .Normally does better job at last part too

Re: Lowering with 2pc shaft
The Belltech rear flip kit for my OBS CC swb truck (6" drop minimum) came w/a 2" spacer so that gives some guidance. I'd say a 1-1.5" spacer will be your likely target.

Re: Lowering with 2pc shaft
Have some materials and drops in shop can use to test and zero in before making actual piece. Will do google thing and find few pics. Best thing about machines. Give me picture and few numbers and can build it. While time is money if just lost TV time its not really bad thing.
