Passenger Door Mirror Installation

My '55.2 didn't come with a mirror on the passenger side door. I have the mirror but am wondering how the best way to install it. I see on the bigger extendable truck mirrors they have a mounting bracket that installs inside the door that the mirror arm screws to. If I don't have that can I just use things like rivnuts or fender washers and nuts inside the door? Thanks.

Have you looked inside the door to see if you have the bracket? Mine didn't have a passenger side mirror or the exterior holes for one either, however, I found that there was the bracket welded inside. My guess is that all doors were manufactured/assembled with the interior bracket, then perhaps as an option ($) it came with the mirror. Same was with the passenger side visor inside.

Cheers, Jim

Yeah, you can totally get away with rivnuts or fender washers and nuts inside the door if you don’t have the factory backing plate. Just make sure you use big enough washers to spread the load and avoid pulling through the sheet metal. Add a bit of thread locker and you should be good

I put a mirror on my 59 on the passenger side and did put a non oe plate on the inside. All is fine except it vibrates on closing the door so I rest my hand on the mirror when I close the door. I would try to use the plate you have and just try bolting thru without attaching plate.

'60s mirror on AD truck, but I chose to make up a tapped stainless plate shaped to inside door and a thick rubber gasket for outside.

I know on one door I had the mirror wasn't on there but the bracket was inside, holes were in the door skin and there were factory looking flat head screws threaded in. Not sure if this is the way it was always done but maybe yours is that way and somebody bondo'd them in.
